Studio
Design real-world control systems before you build them
TameChaos Studio is the Apple-native design studio for sensor-driven systems: model your topology, spec your instruments, and mock up your operator dashboards on Mac and iPad — fully offline, no cloud required. It’s standalone-valuable; connecting to the edge is optional.
What it is
An engineering design studio for sensor-driven systems
Model your topology, spec your instruments, and mock up your operator dashboards — a working engineering model of a real-world system, authored on Mac and iPad, fully offline.
Design before you build
Lay out your process, instruments, control topology, and operator views as one working engineering model — and catch the gaps on screen, before any hardware is bought or wired.
Vendor-neutral by design
Model systems independent of any one platform or supplier. Compare candidate parts and document your architecture without committing to a vendor’s tooling first.
Standalone — the edge is optional
Studio delivers on its own: diagrams, inventories, sourcing research, HMI mockups, and a documentation package. Export to the TameChaos edge only when, and if, you choose to.
What you can do
Model, spec, mock up, and document — end to end
A standalone topology-centric workspace: design the physical and control system, research the instruments, mock up the operator views, and export the whole package.
Physical topology editor
Drag-and-drop your process — vessels, pipes, pumps, valves, panels, sensors — joined by flow paths, and bind each sensor to exactly what it watches.
Communication & control topology
Draft your PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, historians, and gateways with protocol, segment, and vendor metadata. Drafting only — Studio doesn’t simulate the transport.
Instrument & sourcing workbench
A working spec table generated from your diagram: compare candidate parts and track vendor, model, price, lead-time, and datasheet for each role.
HMI / dashboard mockup composer
Lay out operator views — charts, indicators, alarm strips, KPI tiles — bound to your sensors with units and thresholds. A design artifact, not a live dashboard.
Engineering notebook
Markdown notes you can attach to the project or any node — assumptions, open questions, decisions, references — and search across all of it.
Professional documentation export
Generate a complete engineering package — topology, comms, inventory and sourcing, HMI mockups, and notes — as Markdown and PDF. The standalone deliverable.
Field capture — Plant Walk
Walk a site on iPhone and capture photos, observed components, and notes offline — then review and promote them into your design back on Mac or iPad.
Local-first & encrypted
Your project lives on-device, encrypted at rest. Versioned encrypted backups go to Files or iCloud Drive, and snapshots hand a project off between Mac and iPad.
Apple-native
Built for Mac, iPad, and iPhone
Studio is a SwiftUI app for Apple platforms. Mac and iPad are full authoring surfaces; iPhone is the field-capture companion. (TameChaos Field — the Android edge companion — is a separate product.)
Mac
The primary engineering workstation: full project authoring — topology, comms, inventory and sourcing, HMI mockups, notes, and documentation export.
iPad
A serious touch-first authoring surface, not just a viewer — edit topology and HMI mockups, review inventory and sourcing, and capture notes on the move.
iPhone
The Plant Walk capture companion: photograph equipment, draft observed components, and take notes in the field — then promote them into a project.
Where Studio is
In development → TestFlight beta → MVP
Studio is early. It's on a near-term beta track — here's the honest staging. A TestFlight beta is early access, not a finished GA product.
Now
1 · In development
Studio is being built across the capabilities above — some of them are still in flight. It’s pre-release software, not a finished product.
~June 21, 2026
2 · TestFlight beta
An early-access build opens on TestFlight. It’s a real beta — early, rough in places, and still changing — not a feature-complete release. The App Store listing follows.
Target July 5, 2026
3 · MVP
The first shippable Studio: standalone topology design, comms drafting, inventory and sourcing, HMI mockups, notes, and the documentation package.
Honest scope
Studio models and documents. The edge runs.
Studio is an engineering design and documentation environment — not a runtime, a SCADA/DCS replacement, or a simulation engine. Here's exactly where the line is.
What Studio does
Design, research, mock up, and document a real-world system — standalone, before any edge deployment exists.
- Model physical, comms, and control topology
- Research and spec instruments and sourcing
- Mock up operator HMIs as design artifacts
- Export an industrial-quality documentation package
What it isn’t (yet)
Simulation, digital twins, and live operation are future goals (ADR-0092) — not what the beta is.
- No simulation, digital twin, or live telemetry
- HMI mockups are static — not a live dashboard
- Comms topology is drafting only — no transport simulation
- Single-user with snapshot handoff — no live sync or collaboration
